ÉTHÉRÉ

December 2023

For my CAD Visual Merchandising course, I created éthéré, a new boutique beauty brand under the Ulta Beauty umbrella. Inspired by the French word for "ethereal," I chose the name because it embodies the delicate beauty that defines the brand's essence. The project’s objective was to design a pop-up shop to introduce éthéré to Ulta’s loyal customers on Central Michigan University’s campus. Focusing on minimalism and sustainability, the brand emphasizes high-quality, ingredient-focused products with elegant, eco-friendly packaging. Using SketchUp, I designed a visually stunning pop-up shop within a 300-500 sq. ft. space, prioritizing a serene yet inviting atmosphere to reflect éthéré's ethereal charm. The shop’s layout was carefully crafted to balance functionality with aesthetic appeal, and the floor plan, developed in Adobe Illustrator, ensured the space was both practical and immersive.

Where Beauty Meets the Essence of Nature.

The floor plan for Éthéré is a 20 x 20 space designed for functionality and an exceptional customer experience. At its core is the Face Makeup Zone, a spacious 161 sq. ft. area showcasing a wide range of products. Surrounding it are the Makeup & Threading Station (84 sq. ft.), offering personalized services, and smaller zones like Skin Care and Fragrance, each occupying 42 sq. ft. These areas ensure an immersive and organized layout for exploring different product categories. The Promo Makeup, Promo Fragrance, and Entryway zones, totaling 50.5 sq. ft., highlight new launches and promotions, while the centrally located Cashwrap (36 sq. ft.) provides a functional yet aesthetically pleasing checkout experience. Together, these zones are strategically arranged to create an intuitive flow and engage customers effectively.

Éthéré’s visual merchandising reflects elegance and natural beauty through a minimalist design. Bamboo-inspired materials are used for the cash wrap and shelving units, while muted earth tones create a serene, luxurious atmosphere. Products are organized by categories, with tiered displays enhancing visual appeal and accessibility. Rounded display tables and a central rug anchor the layout, highlighting featured products. Behind the cashwrap, a nature-inspired art piece serves as a focal point, reinforcing the brand's connection to natural beauty. Modular displays offer flexibility for seasonal collections and promotions, creating a refined, adaptable, and customer-focused retail space.
